Penstemon was an unexpected surprise for us. We didn't think too much of it, but had heard of its good reputation as a cut flower and that it was a native so we had to give it a whirl. It totally caught us off guard! The flowers are gorgeous and delicate but the foliage also has amazing eye appeal in the garden. Its leaves are thick and contrast with its rich, rosy flowers for a stunning color combo. It's also vigorous and easy to grow, can even handle hot dry sites, so can't really go wrong with this one! Prefers full sun but can handle part shade. Does not like clay soil. Hummingbirds love it!
